Hello Splinterlands Community! In this article I will share my contribution to this week’s battle challenge. In this week the theme was STONE GOLEM. What an interesting pick of choice. With this being said, lets jump straight into my battle!

The prerequisites for this battle were pretty straight forward. There was a mana cap of 15 mana and the death Splinter was not allowed. Additionally, every minion had the opportunity ability which was a major role in my strategy.

My Strategy & Line Up
Going into this battle, I knew that Melee attacks could happen from any position. That is why my first two thoughts were: I need a tank with the Shield ability to counter all of the Melee Attacks coming my way. The other thought was to get myself a big Melee attacker which could then utilize the Opportunity ability himself. My choice fell on the Earth Splinter, because in the Bronze League Rexxie has the most Melee damage. With this being said my tank pick had to be the Stone Golem for the above-mentioned reasons. In general I like these kind of tanks, especially when no Magic is involved because they guarantee you a certain amount of hits to play through your strategy.
Battle
Going into the Battle my opponent chose the Life Splinter with a similar type of tank on the second position. I assume he wanted to counter my big attacks with his chicken and slow me down additionally with his last minion. Going into Round 1 it was a pretty clear thing that his Chicken will fly after one hit by Rexxie. Unfortunately for me, this took away my opportunity to take out some of his back line.

Going into Round two Rexxie cleared the Slime which enabled me to attack faster again. This gave me a great advantage on the next turns. The fact that his eagle attacked my Stone Golem also helped me throughout this battle.

After 6 Rounds it was very clear that I would come out as the victor of this battle. With his eagle only dealing one damage to my Stone Golem and myself dealing 5 damage to his eagle it was just a matter of time until his eagle passes away. The only RNG thing left in this battle was the Flying ability of the Eagle which fortunately for me didn’t trigger once in the late stage of the battle.

Final Thoughts
I am really enjoying using these kind of tanks in the first position. Like I mentioned before they guarantee you to hold the opponent as long as possible so you can deal with his backline. The only disadvantage I see with this kind of tank is his low attack. If he is up against a similar tank with shield he will unfortunately deal no damage which could result in a delay of game or a draw. Other than that I think a Stone Golem should be a good choice if you know you are not playing against Magic.
