Introduction
When I decided to go down the crypto rabbit hole in early 2021 and to write about it a little later, I could not imagine how much time I´d spend on this in the following months.
While I still invest in cryptocurrency and follow blockchain topics in general, blockchain games clearly have become my main area of interest. I spend a lot of time playing Gods Unchained (a trading card game similar to Magic: The Gathering) and Sorare (a fantasy football game) but also try to get involved in additional projects from time to time.
In this article, I am planning to write about a few projects I am excited about for 2022 (and beyond).
Farsite
I have written about Farsite in a more detailed article before and suggest you check it out if this brief description makes you curious.
Farsite is a Massively Multiplayer Online Game in a post-apocalyptic SciFi setting. The plans for Farsite are pretty ambitious and the game is still in its Alpha phase so you can only have a tiny glimpse into the game´s full potential at the moment. As a self-proclaimed economics geek, I am especially looking forward to how the in-game economy will turn out. Every game item will be manufactured by the players from resources mined and transported by players.

The extensive Farsite guide has a dedicated chapter on how the developers envision the economy so I have high hopes for the end-product.
I encourage everyone to look into Farsite during the current Alpha phase (you can use my signup link) as this allows you to get a free starship and to test out some of the game mechanics (flying your starship, for now).
Splinterlands
Splinterlands isn´t exactly a new project but I have only started to spend time on this recently.
Like Gods Unchained, Splinterlands is a trading card game but while Gods Unchained is very close to Magic, Splinterlands is a little different.

Apart from the looks, the main difference is that you only have to select the cards and their positions in Splinterlands, everything else runs automatically. This allows for a more casual gaming experience because you only need to spend time selecting your cards.
I´m not very good at Splinterlands so the earnings potential is limited for me (so far, I have earned less than 1$) but I do enjoy playing it. If someone reading this knows how to improve your earnings from Splinterlands, please do share your insights in the comments or send me an article you wrote and I will link to it.
If you´re into trading card games or are just looking for a fun way to spend a couple of minutes each day, I can recommend Splinterlands and you can signup via my link. I will certainly keep playing Splinterlands in 2022 and I´ll try to slowly get better at it.
Footium
Footium certainly is the gaming project I am looking forward to the most in 2022. I have loved playing football manager games all of my youth and Footium brings this to the blockchain.

In Footium, you run your own NFT football club, recruit players and compete in a tiered league system.
The first batch of clubs compete in a (layer 2) Ethereum-based league system and have all sold quickly. If you want to get involved, you´ll either need to buy one of the clubs on the secondary market or wait for the sale of the next batch (on a different blockchain).
Footium will launch its closed beta in the next couple of days and I am thrilled to see the actual game. If you want to get updates on Footium but are not ready to purchase a club, yet, I suggest you follow one of the Footium clubs on Twitter; eg my division 8 Eccle Wanderers. I will start adding regular content once I get to start playing the beta version.
Samurai Legends
The “Samuraiverse” games are the latest play-to-earn games I have started playing. Samurai Legends is not a single game but a set of games bundled in a combined ecosystem.

Currently, there are
- Banana Katana, a simple mobile game similar to Fruit Ninja.
- Samurai Rising, in which you let your Samurai cards compete with other players´ Samurai.
- Samurai Lands, in which you start building your empire on plots of land in a virtual Japan.
The ecosystem runs on the Binance Smart Chain network, which helps keep fees lower than on Ethereum-based games.
The whole ecosystem is still early in its development which should allow for decent growth opportunities if the developers deliver on their roadmap. I am looking forward to seeing the combination of Samurai Rising and Samurai Lands play out and have already bought 3 Samurai and a plot of land.
Apart from playing your Samurai in Samurai Rising, you can also use them to recruit additional Samurai (basically, you stake the cards + pay a fee of the in-game currency) which should allow for a decent passive income on top of what you earn playing the games themselves.
