Play to Earn: February Earnings Update

By TS90 | My Crypto Failure | 27 Feb 2022

Since it has been a bit over a month since my last earnings update, I will use this article to give you an overview of my earnings from play-to-earn projects.

I will keep this article pretty short because I expect to publish another article tomorrow (airdrop day!).

If you have questions about the games I am playing or play-to-earn in general, feel free to leave a comment or get in touch via Twitter.

Gods Unchained ($199,69)

Gods Unchained is a free-to-play tactical card game that gives players true ownership of their in-game items. Led by the former game director of Magic The Gathering: Arena, the game focuses on competitive play, which means players must strategically outsmart their opponents by building decks that are able to combat a wide variety of tactics. In Gods Unchained players completely own their digital items, giving them the freedom to trade, sell and use their cards any way they like — just like owning real, tangible cards.

Gods Unchained has been the most profitable play-to-earn game for me by far.

It really has it all: I enjoy the game a lot, you can play for free without having to purchase cards, the earnings mechanism is decent (not as great as it used to be, though).

You can earn from playing Gods Unchained in two ways:

  1. Earn GODS tokens from playing in the “Weekend Ranked” tournament
  2. The value of your cards going up

I will not cover the second option here because I find it highly unpredictable.

To earn GODS tokens, you have to win a certain number of the first 25 games you play on a weekend. The exact number depends on your level.

For example, I started this weekend on the “Auric Gold” level, meaning I have to win at least 8 of 25 games to be eligible for tokens. You can find the full list for all levels here.

I have not been very active over the past couple of weeks and have not won tokens for two weeks straight; that´s why my earnings are relatively low this month.

Sorare ($27,86)

Sorare is a fantasy game of soccer, where players buy, sell, trade, and manage a virtual team with digital player cards. The game uses blockchain technology based on Ethereum and was developed in 2018 by Nicolas Julia and Adrien Montfort.

If you are into crypto and football/soccer, you simply have to give Sorare a try. I probably spend even more time on this than on Gods Unchained and it simply is a lot of fun.

While there is a free-to-play option for Sorare, this is purely theoretical. If you want to earn from playing Sorare, you will need to spend some money on this and, I suppose, it should not be less than 200$; probably 500$ makes more sense.

Like with Gods Unchained, you can either earn from the real play-to-earn mechanism which rewards players in ETH, or by the value of your cards going up. Again, I will only talk about the play-to-earn mechanism here, not the value of cards (my earnings would be a lot higher otherwise).

Every league in Sorare offers card prizes and ETH prizes for the top 3 players. On top of this, the “All Star Rare” league rewards all players over the 205 points threshold with 0.01 ETH and players over the 250 points threshold with 0.02 ETH.

If you want to play Sorare on a budget of a few hundred Dollars, this is what you should focus on. It is certainly possible to build a squad that can aim for the 205 points threshold on most weekends for 500$ or less.

Doctor Who: Worlds Apart ($129)

Doctor Who: Worlds Apart is a free-to-play tactical card game that gives you true ownership of your NFT cards, allowing them to be traded with other players online.

Worlds Apart hasn´t actually launched as a game, yet, but there is a strong incentive to get on board already as this game rewards you for logging in to their website on a daily basis.

For each login, you receive 10 “Pandaks” which are worth 0.10$ that you can use to purchase card packs. On top of this, you receive 10% of their spending for referrals you bring in (please use my referral link ;) ) and I have also received some random allocation of Pandaks which, I presume, are rewards for holding cards.

If you like Doctor Who and trading card games, this could be the perfect blockchain game for you.
