Noveletten für Celesta: V. Kleine Tanzszene [Philip Daniel; 2020]

By PhilipDaniel | Musica Melopoetica | 21 May 2021

Fifth in a set of virtuosic "novelettes" for solo celesta. As the title suggests, this "little dance scene" juxtaposes various contrasting dancelike strands in a web of passionate counterpoint. These melodic fragments increasingly abut one another, undergoing various forms of metamorphosis and combination, intensifying and then receding, resolving at the end into a rich D♭ tonic with added 2nd. The illustration in the video is "Indo-Persian Dance" by Leon Bakst.
