Controlled Burns and The Hunt

By ArmFarm | Murchison Farm | 12 Jan 2021

Controlled burns are powerful and effective tools! In this specific case, we were performing controlled burns in land management. I could easily write a book on all of the interactions, recycling, ecosystem boosts, etc... It is a very easy and simple process, on the one hand, while very complicated and intricate, on the other hand.  Inert nutrients are quickly converted to ready and easily consumed forms of available food, for both plants and wildlife. That is just the tip of the iceberg. Perhaps a more lengthy discourse, on this amazing power, in the future.

As the fires increased in size and intensity, the rodents( and other life forms) fled in panic and terror. Many of their efforts were in vain, as the pack of dogs awaited them, in their attempt to flee. I missed videoing much of the hunt, because i was quite busy - as i am sure you can imagine. I did try to capture one particular incident, but was to slow in retrieving the camera. I admit i was somewhat captivated by the show.

One young puppy had reversed a critter, in its tracks and began pushing it back towards the flames. I think it was probably a mouse/rat, or some other small rodent. The snakes, ticks, other creatures slowed by the cold weather, were much too slow to escape the roaring flames(they pretty much burned where they were holed up). Anyways, she trailed and pushed what ever she was on, all the way up to a newly started burn point. The flames had just started to build, and both the puppy, and her intended target, worked their way through the thick mass of dried vegetation( ever closer to the flames). Just as they approached within inches of the flames, the burn jumped in intensity and the wind picked up another notch. The explosive flames drove the puppy off, in surprise, as she lost interest in what ever animal she had been chasing. We had to leave that particular area, as the flames made their final move to encase it, in a burning ring of fire. I never got to lay eyes on her intended victim, but it almost certainly failed to survive the encounter.

In the meantime, part of the pack were off in their loud and excited chases of deer and other larger animals. Some of them were hanging close keeping an eye on me. Bonnie Blue was in a killing spree! She created a mass grave(figuratively) as she killed rats, mice, and other vermin. As soon as the kill was completed, she would bury that critter, and run for the next! LOL! Dogs will be dogs!

As the fires were burning out, Bonnie brought her last rat up to us and proudly showed it off. She then took it off a small distance and buried it. She sat there on guard, watching her target's burial spot, until I finished extinguishing the last flames. She thoroughly enjoyed herself, the burn, and the entire day!

In the meantime, CoCo took a break and laid with my coat. In fact i had 3, of the pack, taking breaks with me, while i made sure the fires could not escape.

All in all, it was another Great Day! As always, I learned something new as i got some exercise and work completed.

If you would like to know some of the reasons that the Socialist/Communist/Democrats, and their propaganda machine - The Fake Stream Media - are in such modes of panic, you may find my prior post, of today, of some interest.
