Gone (2012)

By wolverine | moviesandseriesreviews | 25 Nov 2020

Day something of quarantine, my parents and I watched "Gone". It was recommended to us by my brother. It's a little sketchy when I listen to my bro because sometimes he suggests series or movies based on their thumbnail. This movie stars Amanda Seyfried as Jillian Conway. And the way I see it she is the only main actor in the whole movie.
Jillian was kidnapped and sexually abused by a serial killer. But she was fortunate enough to escape. She was trapped in a big hole in the middle of a forest. When she told the police, they examined her, searched the woods, her house, and everything. Strangely they didn't find even one evidence, no forced entry on her home, she had no scars and so on. So, the police came to the conclusion that she is crazy and was making this whole thing up. Therefore, she was sent to a mental hospital where she got treated and later was living peacefully with her sister.
Until one day, she came back from work early in the morning to find out that her sister is missing. She went straight to the police station and told them everything but no one believed her. This is was it. She no longer listened to the police and went to find her sister on her own terms. She started investigating, went from a store to another asking about this mysterious man. While searching for this man, she was also being followed by the cops as she had a gun on herself and they considered her to be dangerous. Before I continue, I have many things to say. First of all, Amanda Seyfried's acting is bad, I mean I never bought anything she did. Second, how did the police not believe her just for a second at least give her benefit of the doubt. Third, it was really weird how everyone helped her, no matter where she went and who she asked she always got the right answer and no one seemed to forget anything. I'd like to live in a world like this.
Moving on, she discovered that the killer might be the one who had been in the same restaurant where she was working and her friend got tipped well by him. What's bizarre is that why would a serial killer give his number to a waitress and he was on his way out of town. I guess we have to suppose that he somehow knew that Jillian was onto him. Anyway, Jillian's friend helps her by giving her his number. And she called him and asked him where he's at so she can go to him. This is beyond stupid, she's giving him what he wants and on his own terms. That's scary as hell, it's like walking into the lion's den. Talking to him on the phone, he led her back to the forest where he originally trapped her. Looking down at the pit-hole she thinks her sister's down there but she got grabbed by the killer and fell into it. She directly pulls her gun and shoots him three times. Not dead yet, she proceeds to burn him alive by unloading a gasoline tank on him and throwing a lantern to ignite him. And just like that, he was dead. After successfully killing him, she got a call from the cops that they found her sister and that she was under their home. When she came back and the police asked her who he was and she replied there was no one (implying that she made it all up like they thought). What an end to a terrible, horrific movie.
To sum it all, this movie is absolute trash, a woman suddenly turns into a detective and kills a serial killer. The cops leave her alone as if she didn't do anything. This movie was supposed to be a thriller but I never felt tense or excited to see what's coming. Actually, it's the contrary you can predict the whole movie.
