Mortegard is a multi-layered game that simulates the world of its namesake and the stories within it. Presently the core of the game is found in the Kingdom Building client, in which you can place castles, claim land, develop a kingdom, and build your empire - all on the Polygon Network.
By shaping your slice of Mortegard through your rule, you are awarded tokenized resources which you can use to further develop your kingdom, or pledge to story events in exchange for limited time rewards that help you progress your kingdom even further and shape the future of Mortegard itself.
Getting started forging your kingdom requires a couple of things - first of all you need to be on the Polygon Network, and armed with a little bit of Matic to cover gas costs.
The other requirement for play is a castle. Most of these are made available for purchase through OpenSea, but keep an eye on community events as they occasionally offer castles as rewards.
We've just released the Abandoned Fort, coming in at just 0.004ETH an economical castle for new players looking to try the game out. You can find it here.

Once you are ready, you can launch the kingdom building client, which(after downloading and installing) will allow you to place your castle(s) in the world of Mortegard and begin generating resources to help develop your kingdom.
From there, the path of your rule is up to you - create hamlets to generate gold, or scour for mineral veins to produce iron, found sacred grounds or grow wildlands in which to hunt for prey. No need to fret too much about resource balance at the start – you can always sell off your surplus or stock up on dwindling supplies through Uniswap LPs allowing you to exchange resources.
The 5 base development tiles each also have 3 possible upgrades, either increasing outputs of their existing resources, or branching out and diversifying what they produce.
In order to get the most out of your castles, it's important to enlist the aid of courtiers - powerful allies that through their cunning and unique bonuses can optimize inefficiencies or bolster output of castles and their surrounding land.
Currently we have a handful of lore-centric riddle games on our Discord, so drop by and try your hand at puzzle-solving! Another open challenge is found through a mysterious note: it will lead you through a series of challenges to earn an estate(in the form of a castle), as well as the loyalty of the estate’s former owner(in the form of a courtier). There will continue to be opportunities to earn new castles through play and community participation as well.
There are also Story Events that grant you additional opportunities to take your kingdom to the next level. Gain new and fantastical development tiles, new allies, and new lands by participating in the current chapter of the story saga, accessible through the Kingdom Building Client.
