
Le Passage du gois is a natural causeway in France it is between Beauvoir-sur-mar and the Island Noirmoutier. Although it can not be crossed at high tide it is worth seeing it at low and high tide. Le Passage du gois has a road that runs along the causeway. It is 4.12 km long. Le Passage du gois can the crossed 1.5 hours either side of low tide.

If you are a fan of seafood you can freely gather it yourself along with many locals and tourists at low tide. On a Sunday at low tide Le Passage du gois is often crowded with people gathering seafood.

Les Foulées du gois

The professional race starts when the tide starts to rise. They often finish in ancle deep water.

In the summer months it can get very bizzy with tourists and you must remember to pay attention to tide times. If you do breakdown their are rescue poles that you can climb to avoid the rising tide. Le Passage du gois can be very dangerous and lots of fatalities have occurred. In September 2020 a 66 year old lady lost her life when her vechile become trapped by waves. Always pay attention to signs and tide times and just because other people are crossing does not mean that it is safe to do so.
