Algorithms and human resources

By Duvinca | The world, the life & me | 23 Oct 2020

Can an algorithm really get to know and choose human persons? To what extent can it determine our lives? Are we more than mathematical rules?

The human factor cannot be eliminated with computer programming, there is something else that differentiates us from a tablet, we are not exact sciences, we are real and complex bodies and spirits, with their pluses and minuses, with their predictable moments and others that are also unpredictable. . It is true that with so much personal information that we voluntarily give freely or not, a lot of applications, programs and networks can determine certain patterns. But every day our life goes beyond our supposed probabilities.

What if you just wake up with a headache? Will the work be the same for you, will the exam be the same? If you take longer than expected in line at the supermarket? Is it possible to program and calculate everything, even our relationships with other people? And in the workplace, human resources blindly rely on artificial selections overlooking the stories of each of the human beings?

Lately from what we see and hear, it seems that the much-mentioned artificial intelligence sets the trend and given the dilemma of algorithms versus humans, it gives the feeling that the former win, although I don't know if artificial intelligence can understand sensations ...
Well, I am not an artificial bot, but a human person and also with a soul, and I must say that I have not just been convinced by that current that drags us: leaving such algorithms and computational formulas to direct and sentence our lives just because, because it's easier, and because it seems that's the future. Although that future self-imposed sometimes goes against ourselves. Have we really chosen that future, like this?

It is not about demonizing the comfortable and agile technology, but about seeing it in a smarter way. In these cases, it can be a fantastic tool that can help us in our lives or in our work, but being aware that malicious or addictive use can have consequences that we may not be able to predict now.

As I mentioned, in a selection of personnel for a job, I disagree that the algorithms decide with impunity who is the right candidate, with the danger of ruling out real people with great values, for not giving them that opportunity to meet them and discover incredible personalities, attitudes and nuances. This new automated way of doing things denotes a lack of leadership and not wanting to get involved in one's own duty, or the excuse of time, is used as a pretext to avoid being a committed professional who does his job impeccably, cleanly and responsibly.

People are much more than a tag or a keyword, we accumulate experiences, feelings, sensations, emotions, and in the end, we are precisely an accumulation of many elements, which cannot be reduced to a few individual labels that relentlessly categorize us.

Our life and our trajectory are a story that deserves to be listened to and to be understood in its entirety, because only then does it have true meaning.
