I am definitely a strange YouTube watcher and I have a very wide variety of things I enjoy watching. I really wish I could benefit some of the smaller channels that I really enjoy so I am gonna write about a few of them and hope you enjoy them as much as I do. While I watch a few other channels I am gonna focus on the ones with less then 250k subs.
I enjoy watching others playing games that I do not currently own so I can get a feel for the game and see if I think I would enjoy it myself. I am really stingy and hate to spend $60 on something that I do not really enjoy, I want to get my money's worth from games. One game I can not currently enjoy is DCS World (a large open world, highly realistic flight simulator). I need to upgrade or totally rebuild my computer to be able to handle the game and also would want to buy a $200 joystick. While the game itself is free buying you buy individual planes these go from $5 for the cheaper less detailed planes to they hyper realistic $80 planes. To actually get the game and enjoy it I am going to need $2,500 (sad face). That means I might never be able to get it (remember how stingy I am) or I will not be able to get it for a year or more as I save up for all the different components.

A channel that really champions this game is The Grim Reapers https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZuXjkFY00p1ga3UyCBbR2w. They have about 84k Subs at the moment. Its a group of pretty hardcore fighter pilot wannabees (I do not mean this as an insult, not very many of us get the chance to be real life fighter pilots) lead by Cap (sometimes he calls himself SUPERCAP!). They do a great job of mixing in detailed, home made campaigns and fun real life questions asked by there Subs. The campaigns are usually semi realistic cold war or dictator takes over a country scenarios and the real life questions are usually based on a real world story's or something out of a movie. While DCS is not a perfectly realistic, its is close enough that the Grim Reapers use it to answer questions, like if the way the scene from "Behind Enemy Lines", portrays a SAM following a F/A18 hornet is realistic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x2GsK8uIovI They also do realistic comparisons of different fighters: top speeds, acceleration, maneuverability and general dog fighting. They do educational videos on how to set up a HOTAS joystick and throttle for each different jet (this is a really complicated game). I really enjoy the cheeky banter that they give back and forth and how excited they get when they complete a mission or shoot down an enemy. The only negative I would have for them is they use foul language on occasion (I know I am a little old fashioned) so I need to use a headset if my kids are around, although most people would not find this a problem at all. If you like fighter jets or flight simulator give this channel a chance and watch a few of their videos!
I am also into Blacksmithing and enjoy history. I built a coal forge out of an old propane tank and a shop vac, this knowledge led me to an interest in historical arms and armor. I find it fascinating how a crossbow was built in the middle ages and the effectiveness of a long bow verses a crossbow. How were the English able to use a long bow so effectively and why no other contemporary country fielded long bows like the English did. A great channel for understanding these questions would be Tod's Workshop. https://www.youtube.com/user/todsstuff1

Tod of Tod's Workshop makes crossbows and other medieval weapons. He did a really fascinating video on the effectiveness of the longbow against armor and how the English would have used them at their major victories: Crecy, Pointers and Agincourt. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DBxdTkddHaE&t=88s Why a historian thinks the English won Agincourt https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1dFzFwgrfE And how much faster a longbow is to shoot over a crossbow and how a 200lb longbow can impart more energy to an arrow over a 1,200lb crossbow. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1w8yHeF4KRk He does a great job of being impartial to the outcomes of his videos and trying to really understand how these battles were fought and what made different countries chose different weapons. He uses historical documents and medieval sources to answer questions whenever possible. Using science and instruments to figure out the power of the different weapons and how they compare. If you enjoy medieval history or like mythbusting this is a great channel to watch!
My last channel to check out is just a goofy one. I enjoy knives and survival/bush crafting so I found these silly guys. DBK (Dutch Bushcraft Knives) https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC0k91MwJuS5VvNOJdbDhPYA

They have shorter videos where they test out different knives and tell the value they bring into bush crafting. What I like that they do is that they will tell you about all kinds of different knives, from $800 to $20 and tell you what is a better value and how well each knife is at a different task. They focus on telling you what each knife excels at and that just because a knife is inexpensive it can have a purpose and how some very expensive knives are just not worth the extra price. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dp0EiiE5HT4&list=PLN0jw7Y1o5CabC4N1HJWErRurA2SdyzUN They are honestly just a couple of goofballs who you can tell have been friends a long time and they enjoy each others company and having a good time. They have some useful information, like how to sharpen a knife and how to start a fire without tools or a lighter. They just happen to do everything in a silly manner. The nicest thing about the channel is that the videos are short and not to serious so jumping into a video when you have a short bit of down time is fun. If you like knives, bush crafting, camping or just something to watch that does not take itself to serious then give DBK a view!
