Disney was first to bid on a Potter-themed amusement park, but refused to give the rights to J.K. Rowling. It was at this point that Rowling went to Universal Studios instead, who allowed her to keep the rights, resulting in the construction of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter in both Universal Studios America and Japan.
