Serpents

By MatTehCat | MatTehCat's Blogs | 10 Jun 2020

A den of serpents writhed together in the dark,
Their scales were intertwined, and their bodies were warm.
Yet their abode was destroyed, and they, torn apart.

The darkness forsook them, and they were brought to light,
Slithering about slowly, waking from their sleep.
Being seen, the rays of the sun gave them a great fright.

One serpent, angry, sought the nearest piece of flesh.
He slithered towards the belly of a man to bite
Him, but he was awake and brought the serpent death.

The man flattened the serpent’s head, and he survived;
Though it tried to poison him with its wicked bite,
The serpent failed, and now, the man would surely thrive.

The other serpents fled, but were burnt in the sun,
Their corpses dried up, and their bleached bones marked their grave.
The man sat with a wise smile, as their end had come.
