In a related twist, President Donald Trump, ade headlines by pledging to dismiss Gensler on his first day back in office if reelected. However, Trump's promise could face delays due to the procedural hurdles involved in audits and reviews, which could take up to a year. Despite this, Trump’s statement highlights the friction between the SEC and pro-crypto advocates, with Gensler at the center of controversy.
Pearce has subtly highlighted what she views as Gensler's mistakes, arguing that the SEC’s current approach, which relies on a series of enforcement actions rather than clear regulatory guidelines, has led to unnecessary litigation and confusion in the crypto sector. However, while Pearce has garnered support from the cryptocurrency industry, her chances of actually taking over the SEC’s leadership are slim. She has publicly stated plans to depart from the SEC when her current term ends in 2025, casting doubt on her future role in the agency despite calls from some quarters for a more balanced regulatory hand in the crypto space.
