Bitcoin in 2026; the first 2 weeks

Last year bitcoin prices took a nose dive towards the end of the year. After reaching a high of USD $126K in mid-October valuations dropped all the way to USD $84K a month later. That corresponds to 66 % of that recent all-time high.

But what has happened since then? Without much fanfare Bitcoin has seen its price rise steadily and has now recovered about a quarter of the value lost in that drop, and it appears hovering around the USD $95K mark as of this writing. Some positive macroeconomic news helped crypto valuations in general, but there is an underlying story that keeps pushing prices higher regardless of these disruptions.

The Adoption Story: There has been continued institutional investment in Bitcoin. Across the board adoption of Bitcoin (and other crypto currencies) continues to gain traction. The old narrative about cryptocurrencies is changing and it is no longer considered valid. Institutional adoption of Bitcoin gives it respectability.

In 2025 the number of cryptocurrency users grew by 32%, reaching the 861 million people. Bitcoin accounts for about three quarters of that total.

Now we must account also for regional differences, there are local factors that have made crypto adoption more convenient in some countries. Bitcoin is very useful as counter to inflation, citizens of countries with high inflation or unstable economies may find it better to keep their funds in bitcoin instead of traditional banks.

An interesting effect of the increased level of bitcoin adoption is the reduced volatility of the asset. In the past Bitcoin has seen lows of about 30% of its previous All Time Highs. Now, with increased confidence in Bitcoin any marked drops in valuation are seen by many as buying opportunities, which helps to prop up the price.

As we reach the middle of the month, bitcoin valuations seem to be meeting some resistance. There are factors that bitcoin must address, like the vulnerability of its encryption to quantum computing. Other macroeconomic factors may also play a role in the path that bitcoin valuations follow in the short term.
