A resident of Barcin in the voivodeship Kuyavian-Pomeranian in Poland was quite surprised when she found a letter written in Chinese in her new jacket bought for her son.
The woman was so interested in the content of the letter that she arranged for a translation. She asked the local TVL Barcin TV for help, and journalists took the manuscript to a foreign language teacher.
The note found in the pocket of his jacket turned out to be a dramatic appeal of a Chinese prisoner forced to slave.
"We are foreign prisoners in the Chinese Qingpu prison in Shanghai. We have been forced to work against our will. Please, help us and notify human rights organizations,"
reads the letter. In addition, a phone number appeared in it and a request to contact the prisoner's sister.
A woman was contacted but she said everything was all right. However, she was afraid to tell the truth, so the case was reported to Amnesty International.
