I am back

I am back

Big call out to @ Learn With Hatty for being the inspiration for starting my own blog.

”Your garden sounds amazing! I would love to see pictures one day.”

And why not. Being a serial commentor from way back, sometimes it took time to research the reply. Might as well add images.

To my 44 followers, now you have a reason.

P.S.  Never could fathom why some one would want to follow some one who is not an author. What was the point other than being pointless. Well now there is a point

The Offending Comments

“My garden is doing fine thanks. Been putting a lot more effort into growing my own medicine (herbs):in the last few years

  • rosemary
  • dandelion
  • coriander (wife likes it, can’t stand the taste and smell)
  • parsley
  • chives
  • oregano

given how much garlic we consume, would like to be able to grow garlic but don’t have the space. Always try to buy from Farmers Markets, quality is vital”

part two

at least once a day, main meal has instead of traditional salad

  • grated carrot and beetroot as base
  • herbs finely chopped and sprinkled over
  • clove garlic finely chopped
  • hemp seeds on top
  • drizzled with quality Olive Oil
  • 2 caps of full strength Apple Cider Vinegar
  • home made hummus as a side

optional xtras could include if available

  • few dried cranberries or sour cherries
  • few fresh blueberries cut in half
  • finely chopped goat cheese
  • semi dried tomatoes
  • cherry or grape tomatoes cut into 2 or 4

secret to being tasty is not over doing any one ingredient.

Idea was taken from a glory bowl (budha bowl) where ingredients are not mixed but kept seperate. Each mouthful tastes slightly different”

The Winter Garden

The Daffies are doing gangbusters after adding couple applications of

  • Rock Dust
  • Potash
  • Rooster Pellets and
  • Blood n Bone

The paw paw was getting too tall so topped it. Turns out the trunk was hollow. To avoid filling with water and rotting, made a mushroom cap from insta foam in a can. The lower shoots took off and each one has a few fruit. Harvest is late winter here.

The Hibiscus flowers all year round. Due to it’s natural tendency to grow large and it has to share the space with a strawberry guava, paw paw and a white double hibiscus. It gets pruned a few times a year, instead of an annual total haircut.

A big fave with the grandchildren. This is the passionfruit vines first crop, so hoping they are sweet and chokka with pulp.

The Lemon Tree is an oldie. When we arrived it was rather sickly looking. Had two trunks and one had been ring barked by a cat. Removed the trunk and it burst back to life. Due to the sandy soil it needs ample citrus fertiliser and irrigation over summer.

That thing in front is a hundred year old wooden park bench that I started to restore. It belonged to a ladies husband's grandmother. The lady herself was old enough to be some ones great grand mother.

The parsley is grown from own seed. Grown in a block to prevent from getting too big. Only use the new young tender shoots for the fresh herb sprinkle. Also have a wild patch in another garden out the front. When we have a Brasilian BBQ we need alot of parsley to make the chimichurri (actually an Argentinian dish that Brasil adopted).

I once saw a bumper sticker that said I Hate Coriander. It is reassuring to know you are not alone.
