Why we should avoid futile arguments in life?

Dear Friends,

We have been continuously sharing important things to learn and practice in life to be healthy and happy.

In this series, we are seeing the futile arguments.

Avoid futile arguments...

Many among us waste their time and invite trouble by constantly arguing about something, whether it concerns them or not, debating endlessly about "Is it this? Or that? Is it him? Or her? What I say is right. No, no, what I say is right."

In train journeys and many other public places, many people engage in these pointless arguments and face bitter consequences. We see in the newspapers every day how sometimes these arguments escalate, leading to fights, and even murder.

This argumentative obsession will surely make you emotional, dull your ability to think and make decisions, and lead to undesirable consequences. This is why we see signs in many public places that say, "Do not discuss politics here."

If a person has a firm stance in their mind, they will try to uphold it at all costs. Even if you present countless facts and reasons and debate for hours, they will not change their position. In the end, only bitterness remains. Then why this futile argument? There is also a psychological truth in this.

A person personifies themselves within the argument they hold in their mind.

Therefore, if someone argues against their position in that debate, they feel that they are being opposed personally and become emotional. Because their ego is aroused, they lose the ability to consider and weigh any arguments objectively. That is why we have been advised to avoid arguments and counter-arguments.

"He who wins in an argument is the one who loses, for in it lies overwhelming bitterness," says a psychologist. If circumstances arise where you have to engage in arguments with others about a particular subject, it should be a constructive argument. Furthermore, ensure that the argument focuses on the subject matter at hand and not on the individuals involved.

If a casual conversation with family or friends escalates into a heated argument, it is best for one person to temporarily leave the situation. Alternatively, try to diffuse the tense atmosphere by telling jokes or diverting the conversation to avoid further conflict.

In many families, couples argue about something or the other throughout their lives. Even after having grandchildren, they continue to argue endlessly, each insisting that they are right. If such arguments within close relationships are not resolved with the right approach, it can sometimes lead to the breakdown of those relationships over time.

Sometimes, arguments arise due to health issues, emotional distress or anger carried over from other situations. At such times, one should understand the underlying reason and try to de-escalate the situation.

Avoid pointless, trivial arguments. If unavoidable, give the other person space, listen to their arguments without interrupting, and act with magnanimity. Most importantly, do not expect others to fully accept your opinion, no matter how true or insightful it may be.

Because that is contrary to human nature. Everyone believes their own perspective is paramount.

You must try to understand their point of view first before attempting to guide them towards your perspective.

The world does not revolve according to our wishes!

Have a great day ahead and practice this whenever it is possible!
