A zero-knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machine (zkEVM) is a virtual machine that generates zero-knowledge proofs to verify the correctness of programs. ZkEVMs are designed to execute smart contracts in a manner that supports zero-knowledge technology. The advantage of these types of zkEVMs is their compatibility with EVM-based applications and tooling. A fully bytecode compatible zkEVM would be able to support the same debugging tools and developer infrastructure as native Ethereum-based applications. This is considered as the future scalability of Ethereum without compromising the security. 

It was expected that the Polygon (Matic) zKVM Mainnet would be known by March 2023. It was widely expected that this integration would save the transaction fee for users and the data cost on the network with the high data speed. 

The noted Polygon zKEVM developer shared details of its testing through twitter on February 9, 2023.

With this news, the update is much encouraging.

He shared that it needs to spend only 2.5 minutes to validate a batch of 250-500 transactions of Ethereum-based ERC-20 tokens.
