It the market conditions are favourable to you, this would be much helpful to you.

In simple words, it's the value of possessions you own after all your dues
are cleared. This includes all your moveable and immovable assets like:

  • Property
  • Fixed Income Assets
  • Shares and Equity Mutual Funds
  • Gold/Jewellery
  • Cash in the bank etc.

and liabilities like Loans, Taxes Due, Payments Due etc.

But how do we calculate the individual net worth of a person? It has a simple formula.

Networth = Total Assets- Total Liabilities.

Once you calculate your net worth, it's important to understand what it means. You always want your net worth to be positive since that would mean that you have more assets than liabilities. If your net worth is negative, it means your assets are lesser than your liabilities and that you need to pay close attention to your finances and improve your position.

How can you improve your networth?

Here are few useful tips.

Measure your assets.

These include your primary residence, your vacation homes, your equity, retirement investments, your gold possessions, and much more.

Kick out debt.

Often, debt forms the largest chunk of your liabilities. Those EMIs and high-interest rates can hurt your progress in building your net worth. Clear them at the earliest!

Track your expenses.

One of the most effective ways to build your net worth is to reduce all expenses that are ‘wants’ and not ‘needs’.

You don't need the latest iPhone or the newest car when what you already have works well. Also, always make sure that your credit card expenses aren't beyond your allocated budget.

Increase your income.

While reducing expenses is important, it is also beneficial to find other ways to make money to speed up building your net worth. Finding passive income sources, alternate jobs, gigs etc. can be a great way to do this.

Invest what you save.

Once you start saving enough, it's time to plan how to grow those savings. Start reading up about investing, understand the risk-reward ratio of each type of investment, and make calculated decisions about which kind of investments you want to go with.

Final Takeaway:

Building one's net worth is an essential, yet time-consuming, process.

Don't get overconfident with quick wins or get disheartened from initial hiccups.

They are all important parts of the journey as long as you remain grounded.

The longer you work on it, the bigger your chances are of reaping benefits for the rest of your life.
