The Crypto Industry in whole has been criticized by the environmental enthusiasts over its carbon emissions.

Eventhough various crypto protocols have been coming up with various comprehensive and sustainable ways to process the transactions- they have been much pointed out with the headlines for various backlash issues.

This time Dogecoin, the meme coin was the talk of the industry. Dogecoin’s Carbon emission were dipped by 25% in one year. Infact Dogecoin have released 1063 tons of emissions in 2022 in contrast to 1.423 tons in the previous year of 2021.

It is said that the Cryptomarket leader Bitcoin has emitted 200 million tonnes of CO2 since its launch. Tesla, the pioneers of electric vehicles in 2021 discontinued vehicle purchases using Bitcoin owing to growing concerns over the increased usage of fossil fuels for Bitcoin mining.

The High Carbon Emissions were from the Polygon and Bitcoin Cash in the line after Bitcoin. While Polygon uses 90.18 kWh per transaction, Bitcoin Cash uses 18.96 kWh in every transaction.

Ethereum, the 2nd largest Crypto leader, have experienced the biggest reduction in carbon emissions last year, after having shifted to a proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus mechanism. The asset now requires a dainty 0.03 kWh to carry out its transactions.

In fact, the Crypto-asset activities in the United States of America is estimated to result in approximately 25 to 50 Mt CO2/y, which is 0.4% to 0.8% of total U.S. greenhouse gas emissions. This range of emissions is similar to emissions from diesel fuel used in railroads in the United States, according to a factsheet released by the White House in September 2022.

The guardian reports that the bitcoin climate impact is more than that of the gold mining. 

Though the technical advancements of the crypto projects are welcomed by the people, the environmental concerns to be worked out by the crypto projects to reduce their carbon foot prints to make this world greener and safer for all!
