I've been writing for as long as I can remember. When I was in school, I used to write rap lyrics. I used to write poems. I used to write letters to people I never met.

Then the internet became a thing, and so I started blogging. Then I started pitching my articles to publications and media outlets.

Then, after years and years and millions of words, I finally turned this into a full-time job. So now this is the only thing I do for work, I write.

Sometimes there are other fun things involved. I sometimes travel, I sometimes test and review products, I sometimes get freebies. But writing is the job.

Anybody who's turned whatever their main passion was into their job will probably tell you a different version of what I'm about to say.

First, a job's a job. When something you love doing becomes a job, it means you *have* to do it. Even when you're tired, uninspired, bored, not in form. You still have to do it. And there things involved that have nothing to do with writing.

But you still have to do it. In the same way somebody who loves cooking and becomes a chef still has to sharpen his blades or clean the kitchen. It's still part of the job, even though that person probably only loves creating excellent dishes starting from raw ingredients.

But second, it still doesn't feel like a job. Sure, there are times when articles I know I have to write within a certain deadline make me roll my eyes, but it still doesn't feel work. For the most part.
