I don't remember where I was or who I was with but I remember when somebody told me that Guinness, contrary to what some people think, is a red beer, not a black beer.
Or maybe it was written on a coaster, or maybe it was written on one of those promotional banners that Irish Pub use sometimes.
Still, Guinness is a red beer. And it's a relatively expensive beer depending on where you are. And it can be hard to find.
Outside of the UK and Ireland (and the US), Guinness is generally harder to find than other beers, and more expensive.
And it's almost never included in happy hour deals.
It's also the only beer I'm still drinking.
A few months ago, for no reason at all, I decided I wanted to stop drinking beer and switch to wine instead.
The only exception is Guinness, which I'll have if I can find it.
The official excuse is that Guinness is a low-carb, low-alcohol beer.
Which I don't doubt. It does feel 'lighter' than other beers.
But that's just my opinion, and opinions vary.
A lot of people would tell you otherwise. They'd tell you the exact opposite. They'd tell you Guinness is quite heavy.
I know this, because they tell me sometimes.
But I just love it.
If I had to pick only one drink that I'd have to have for the rest of life I'd pick Guinness in a heartbeat.
The only exception would be water, obviously, and maybe, just maybe, coffee.
