I'm an amateur photographer. I'm not great, but I'm not s**t either, mainly because I've been taking pictures forever, which means I've developed a bit of an eye for what works visually and what doesn't.
So far, I've only been able to indirectly monetise this by using my own photos and videos for YouTube, my website and, occasionally, my work, and so on.
However, I want to try and monetise it directly.
I've decided to upload one picture on Unsplash every day for the next 365 days, starting today.
Depending on it goes, if I see progress, I might upload two or three daily at some point.
Here's what I expect/hope for
For those who don't know, Unsplash is a huge photograph database and archive where you can get copyright free images, which is very useful in a world full of content creators.
It is my understanding that photographers essentially monetise their uploads on Unsplash in two ways.
Indirectly, it gives them exposure and potentially leads to being hired for a gig.
Directly, you can apparently try and upload pictures to Unsplash+ and, if accepted, you get paid for that.
My goal and hope is that, 365 days and 365 high-quality pictures from now, I'll get some work thrown my way, or I might be able to get some of my pictures accepted.
I'll also do the thing I naturally do, mainly because I do it for a living and it comes with the job, and regularly analyse feedback.
I'll keep an eye on the number of views and downloads, the view-to-download ratio and so on, and act accordingly.
Wish me luck.
