I'm gonna revert to type after this and get back to crypto and tech and stuff, but first, I want to talk about something I care about: working in the media.
Legacy media's response to modern media reminds me of Blockbuster with Netflix, or BlackBerry with Apple.
First, they ignored it. And then, they underestimated it. Then they tried to fight it, in every possible way, but it was too late. And then they lost. And then now no cares anymore about Blockbuster and BlackBerry.
And I say that as a former BlackBerry user and hardcore fan.
Legacy media is, I guess, an umbrella term to include newspapers have been around for over 100 years, or TV programmes that launched 50 or 60 years ago.
In a way, it was a monopoly. Obviously, there are different newspapers and TV channels, but the way they vectored their product, so to speak, was akin to a monopoly.
Then the internet came along, and they ignored it, underestimated it and now they're losing.
Pick any metric you want, legacy media brands are losing. Every single newspaper in existence sells fewer copies today than it did five years ago, and five years ago it was already selling less than 10 years ago.
TV ratings are abysmal, their budgets are going down, advertisers are fleeing.
And it's all fully deserved. Because by constantly lying and thinking people are idiots, they lost the only true advantage they had: credibility.
Which brings me on to Joe Biden.
Anybody with eyes and ears could see the U.S. President was in no mental state to run a company, let alone a country.
Four years ago, you could already see his mental capacity was already gradually deteriorating, but it got really bad, really quickly, over the last two years or so.
For years, we've watched him shake hands that weren't there, talk to people who weren't there, wander off aimlessly during meetings with other world leaders.
We heard him blabber, slur his speech, fall off the stairs.
And everyone was saying, "this guy is unwell".
But legacy media outlets only talked about this if their political stance was aligned with people who are against Joe Biden.
The other newspapers and TV shows minimised it, or ignored it, or downplayed it, or simply insulted people who simply had their eyes and ears open.
Until the infamous debate.
During the debate, his cognitive decline was so obvious, that even they could no longer ignore it.
So now they're all acting surprised and shocked.
Why?
If you and I are looking out the window, and there's a thunderstorm, and I keep telling you, "no, it's fake news, can't you see the sun?", three things are going to happen.
First, you'll think I'm joking, second, you'll try to get me to acknowledge the obvious and then three, you'll just give up and ignore me.
That's what's going on with legacy media outlets.
They've jumped off the building years ago, and they're as good as dead. They just haven't hit the ground yet.
