A friendly reminder (to myself as well)

A friendly reminder (to myself as well)

I'm assuming you've all noticed, but centralisation is one of the world's recurring issues.

And I'm not talking about crypto.

Few large companies own most of the platforms we use. If, for example, you work in the media, you're at the mercy of Google and Facebook.

These two giants alone control the vast majority of social media platforms we use daily.

Not only are they monopolies, they're tyrants.

They decide what goes and what doesn't. No one else.

They make the rules. And they change the rules.

The problem, I'm afraid, is chronic.

They do this because we want them to do this. Because delegating power to a central authority is something humans find convenient.

Think of all the times you've used a password manager to store your passwords. Easier than using our mind, right?

Today I got a friendly reminder of that because YouTube decided a video I'd uploaded was 'clickbait' and couldn't be promoted with GoogleAds.

Why clickbait? They didn't say.

But this was their decision. And it's final.

And there's nothing I can do.

Except one thing.

Diversify. At the end of the day, it seems this really is the only weapon we have. Diversify.
