Actress and former-MMA fighter Gina Carano has been fired by Lucasfilm. Before her dismissal, she played the role of Cara from The Mandalorian, a Star Wars televisions series. In their statement, LucasFilm described her tweets as "abhorrent" with much of the mainstream media describing her social media posts as "controversial".
As a disclaimer, I have not watched The Mandalorian, though I have heard that the show has been well received by the Star Wars fanbase. In addition, I have no idea who Gina Carano was until I caught wind about the recent buzz of her firing. As a result, I really do not have a dog in this fight. Apparently, Lucasfilm fired her because she made a bunch of social media posts that outraged a lot of people. Out of curiosity, I checked to see the posts that caused all the hoopla.

I honestly do not see what is wrong with this tweet. The word, 'racist', has definitely diminished in value over the years as a result of people abusing the term repeatedly. On top of that, the self-proclaimed 'anti-racists' frequently project what they accuse others of doing and resort to harassment tactics like this:

This allegedly got the outraged to accuse her for transphobia because she refused to put pronouns in her Twitter bio. And when she finally did, she made a satirical version of it, akin to "sexually identifying as an attack helicopter". Again, is there actually something in this tweet that constituted a fireable offense? Not all trans people put their pronouns in their social media bios, so are they transphobic, too? Cracking a joke on a trend does not diminish trans rights nor is she discriminating against trans people.

Being skeptical of the election results and having the opinion of the voting system being insecure are not controversial. Heck, this tweet does not even talk about the 2020 election results, but talks about voting system security, in general. Am I agreeing with her because of confirmation bias? Maybe. But it's not like she was encouraging riots or any illegal activities. As a matter of fact, her tweet aged pretty well considering we have TIME magazine publishing this doozy of an confession.

This post from her Instagram is actually true. Back in the 1930s, the German government encouraged its citizens to discriminate against Jews before they were sent to death camps. In 1935, the Nuremberg laws were created to segregate Germans from Jews and forbid the latter from voting.
I guess that point of contention was Gina's closing question. However, there are already multiple examples of people getting harmed or even killed because they did not align with a certain ideology or were thought to be a fascist. Retired officer, David Dorn, was killed when he tried to protect businesses in St. Louis from BLM rioters. A Trump supporter got murdered in Portland and some cheered for his death. Heck, the murderer even had interviews after he killed the man.
Could Gina be exaggerating? Possibly. But while we are definitely not at the 'death camps' stage, we are in the intermediate stages.
Reading through her social media posts, I don't think Gina Carano has done anything egregious. There's nothing "controverial" or "abhorrent" about them. Yes, Lucasfilm is a private company and they can hire/fire whoever they like. Freedom of speech is not freedom from consequences. I have no disagreements with those arguments. However, the punishment also must fit the "crime". I can also exercise my free speech to say that Lucasfilm overreacted and punishing Gina for wrongthink is reprehensible.
