Martha's Vineyard is an island off the southeast coast of Cape Cod in Massachusetts. There is some fishing and agricultural industry on the island, but the main business seems to be tourism. Edgartown is a quiet town on the eastern end of the island on a sheltered bay.
Under the Lookout Deck at the public docks in Edgartown.
There are plenty of benches along the docks, some under a roof, and others up on top of it. You get a view of the VERY short ferry ride to and from Chappaquiddick Island on the roof. What you see is the whole ride, two boats trade off sending a few cars back and forth most of the day.

There are a good number of restaurants downtown catering to tourists and an art association / gallery building down by the docks. Walking the downtown area is a bit like going back in time (at least as far as most of Massachusetts is concerned).

I visited this town in October and it was not crowded. There could be a big difference in the summer months. It is a terrible town to try and find a parking place on tiny little streets. The good thing is, once you have parked, you can easily walk the whole town and there are places to sit.

If you are at this end of Martha's Vineyard, it will probably be worth seeing Lighthouse Beach in Edgartown (the header photo at the top). There is also not a lot of parking at the beach, but it is only a ten minute walk from the docks. Maybe there is somewhere to park in the middle...?

There are no facilities at the beach but there is a hotel and restaurant across the street. I think Edgartown should be one of your stops if you visit Martha's Vineyard. You can see the rest of the Edgartown Photos on my website. There is a separate page for the photos of Lighthouse Beach.
