Charles Hoskinson, founder of the cryptocurrency Cardano (ADA), stated this Wednesday (3) that he will be "taking a break." His comments come one day after the release of a video in which he appeared bothered by demands related to the price of his cryptocurrency.
Although it remains among the top 15 cryptocurrencies in the market, Cardano is trading at $0.18 at the time of this writing. This is its lowest price since January 1, 2021, about five and a half years ago.
Compared to its all-time high, recorded in September 2021, Cardano is trading 94% lower.
Cardano founder says he has no control over his cryptocurrency, but is tired of receiving demands
Charles Hoskinson is one of the most famous developers in the industry. Besides being the founder of Cardano (ADA), he is also one of the co-founders of Ethereum (ETH). However, it is his bold statements that always catch the market's attention.
For example, in 2024 Hoskinson stated that Bitcoin would not survive. Later, in 2025, he said that Ethereum will die within the next 15 years.
However, it is his own cryptocurrency that appears to be in danger. TradingView data shows that Cardano is trading 94% below its all-time high, having reached its lowest value since early 2021 this Thursday (4).
In a live stream on his social networks on Tuesday (2), Hoskinson addressed Cardano's problems but absolved himself of blame.
"This year is going to be very difficult, especially the second half of the year for Cardano. We're probably going to see more DeFi projects dying and consolidation happening. I'm not exactly sure what my role or place is to solve this. I keep getting criticized incessantly online. Every day, people post the price of ADA on my Twitter and blame me for the collapse."
According to the developer, although he founded the project, he has no special power over Cardano.
"I don't have governance keys. I don't even have the ability to initiate a hard fork, let alone change protocol parameters. I don't have access to the treasury. I don't even own the Cardano brand."
Hoskinson also highlights that billions of dollars were allocated to separate companies to provide growth for the ecosystem, but that this money did not pass through his hands.
In another tweet posted this Wednesday (3), the developer states that he "will be taking a break," but without making any further comments about his decision.
In the comments, many followers showed support for the developer.
This is not the first time Hoskinson has said he is bothered by demands regarding ADA
Cardano emerged as a great market promise and performed well in its first years of development. Then the criticism began as the price collapsed.
Back in 2021, Hoskinson was criticized for failing to keep promises about his project, including the arrival of smart contracts and other functionalities.
Later, in 2022, the developer said he was tired of taking the blame for ADA's problems.
"I'm seriously tired of taking the blame from both sides. Cardano is decentralized. The people who run the network decide the upgrades, not me," Hoskinson said at the time.
Hoskinson's latest outburst follows the same tone, once again showing himself bothered by the development of his project.
