It appears that finally after a conflict that began on February 1st of this year the United Nations or UN is finally making an effort to address the issue going on in Myanmar. While voting has been delayed due to not enough support yet a non-binding resolution on halting arms transfers to Myanmar has been getting discussed and negotiated. Personally I feel these are the first truly international actions as the US and Western Allies only have so much power against a country in Southeast Asia.
This has come after some of the most public criticism against the government have taken place. In the Miss Universe pagent Miss Myanmar contestant Thuzar Wint Lwin used the parents national costume show to hold a sign up that said "Pray for Myanmar" in a video for the competition she called out the military about killing civilians every day. Since the pagent is held in the US this has been the biggest call for something to be done that has occurred on US soil and hopefully will lead to actions being taken.
The US has responded with another recent round of sanctions against Myanmar's ruling military junta by putting them on the finicail blacklist. This is a pretty big thing because the blacklist prevents them for using banks or other companies/corperations that also use the USD. Failure of a entity to comply with this has them face blacklisting and is a very effienct way to lock up someones funds. The junta recently tried to come up with a new face for their rule creating the State Administration Council. Thus some of the new blacklisted invidiuals are not directly part of the military but are instead working within this military apperatice.
Lasty. it has finally been conmfirmed by the Asian Netowrk for Free Elections (ANFREL) that last years elections which resulted in the militaries crushing political defeat was inline with the will of the people. This puts to rest that the military is doing this because the peoples will was supressed and just further shows how the military is out for their own gain. The group does state that the vote was not as free and fair as it was in 2015 but this was due to the COVID-19 pandemic going on.
