Hell Raining Down on the Land of Canaan: Part 2

The Gaza Strip and Israel conflict seem to continue no matter what any outside organization or country seems to say. Israel has now upped the ante with the addition of ground-based troops attacking Hamas and Islamic Jihad. While so far the Israeli Defence Forces or IDF have not put boots on the ground yet they maintain posted at the border and disbursed within Israel itself to try and clamp down on civil unrest.

Interior Israel

Civil unrest might be the hardest part of this conflict to clamp down on and stop. It is not sustainable to lockdown a country again especially just coming out of a pandemic and thus these two groups, Arabs and Jews, are going to interact. Both sides have responded with violence or have tried to and have attacked religious centers on both sides which is appalling to see. The military has been deployed to try and help quell the protests and I am not sure that will work whatsoever. The Palestinians are outraged and even once the Gaza operation stops they will continue to protest to gain more freedom and prevent future settlements.

For the interior issue to be fully addressed through the rockets, armed drones, firebombs, etc. have to stop being launched from Gaza by the terrorist organizations Hamas and the Islamic Jihad. These two groups have launched thousands of rockets into Israel covering the country from the north to the south. However, most of the attacks remain close to the border and border towns some have been launched into interior Israel including the Holy City of Jerusalem which is extremely dangerous as they do not have the most accurate rockets and could end up hitting a mosque or even a church.

Gaza Strip

Something that is not being highlighted enough is what Hamas and Islamic Jihad do not have the most advanced rocket systems and because of the older or more rudimentary designs and parts misfires happen. Estimations have put up to 1/3 of all rockets fired from Gaza do not make it out of the territory and instead land within Gaza's area. This means that not only is Israel bombing Gaza but Gaza is bombing itself. This leads to Gaza dealing with further infrastructure damage. With the territory already having crumbling infrastructure that hardly functions as is this just makes the humanitarian aspect even worse.

With Hamas and Islamic Jihad unable to afford protection systems for their launch sites and storage locations, they have had to adapt over the years. Since the last war with Israel in 2014, Hamas and Islamic Jihad have moved more and more of their operations into well areas that civilians frequent creating a sort of human shield. It has been truly upsetting to see that these organizations have decided it is okay to build military structures by a variety of buildings including hospitals, schools, religious centers, vital infrastructure, and even within civilian neighborhoods.

The world as a whole should be disturbed by how this group is putting innocent women and children in harm's way. While Israel is not without blame these terrorists have tied their hands. Israel cannot just allow someone to continue to launch rocket after rocket into their territory and more importantly at their citizens and those who they are supposed to protect.

It would be foolish to say "why can't these two groups lay down their weapons and just get along" like I would love to say. I really wish I could be that optimistic but given that Israeli Leader Netanyahu has gone on record now saying that he does not see an end in sight. With Gaza being blockaded and what little supplies getting cut off by the conflict fuel for electricity and water are running low and could run out. Without some sort of agreement being brokered this could end up taking the crisis from a 10 to a 15 on a scale of 1 to 10. Something I think everyone can agree we need to avoid at all costs.
