Okay, so this was supposed to be the second post on this blog but time got away from me with pre-boot camp work so this post will just have to pull double duty. I'll introduce myself in a moment but the first part of this post will be about where I'm at and the second part will be a review of what I see looking ahead. So, without further delay...
What I'm Starting With
Programming Experience
Hi, hello. My name is Mike and I started this blog to catalog my development as a programmer from pre-boot camp times until I land a job in web3.
Prior to the boot camp, I've played around with different self-directed teaching apps to learn programming and while this gave me some fundamentals to work with I knew I needed the structure a boot camp could provide. Walking in with some familiarity with HTML, CSS, and JS will be helpful but I'm betting on that headstart to run out quick.
Web3 Experience
Thus far, I have had the opportunity to lead an NFT project for a 9-month stint from conception to deployment and oversaw their growth from producing 10, single-issued artworks to developing a 10K community-centered additional project and a dedicated Decentraland exhibit with weekly events.
Beyond this opportunity, most of my knowledge of the world of Web3 comes from reading articles and talking with others over Discord (so I've got a long way to go).
Looking Ahead
This article is coming late and this section was supposed to encompass my thoughts and predictions of navigating the boot camp and what I hope to learn so I'll focus on that last part.
Throughout the 16 weeks of this boot camp, I intend to learn as much as I can about web3 by reading articles every day, engaging in relevant Twitter and Discord spaces, and utilizing the career resources of the boot camp to develop industry-relevant skills while building the basic programming knowledge needed to enter as a jr developer.
With these in mind, I've also got my blogs on this platform to engage in public learning, my hope is that by using these spaces I can engage with others who share stronger experiential backgrounds and they can provide their expertise and suggest what I should be learning next.
Ultimately, my intent is to go from where I am to being employed in web3 and I hope this blog can be left behind for others to follow along and see how I went from a coding newbie with some beginning experience in web3, to being employed in this quickly growing industry.
A Final Note
The last thing I want to note here before I close out is a Discord server I started for others like me that want to learn about web3, blockchains, crypto, NFTs, and Smart Contracts. And to be completely honest this is brand new like I have the skeleton created and I am the only member brand new. So, if you would be interested in joining and creating a knowledge community, join me!
