In my country, there is an old saying: "De mica en mica s'omple la pica" (Bit by bit, the sink fills up). It’s a philosophy of patience, persistence, and realism.
Today, I looked at my dashboard. I earned $0.19 from some surveys and a few cents from my latest articles. To some, this might seem like a waste of time. In a world where people chase 100x gains in crypto or dream of becoming overnight millionaires, my "cents" look invisible.
But to me, they are not invisible. They are real.
The Dignity of the Process
I spent part of my day doing household chores—the kind of work that is exhausting, repetitive, and often invisible. When I finally sat down at my computer, I was tired. I didn't have the energy to "conquer the market." I only had the energy to be honest.
Earning those few cents through surveys or by sharing my thoughts on geopolitics and society is a "small recognition." It’s a proof of work. Unlike a lucky gamble, these earnings are tied to my time and my effort.
Why Cents Matter
- They build discipline: Valuing small amounts makes you respect money more. If you know how hard it is to earn a dollar, you won't gamble it away easily.
- They represent a voice: Every cent from an article means someone, somewhere, spent a minute of their life reading my words. That is a powerful connection.
- They fill the "sink": My $3.11 total balance is a mountain made of many small grains of sand. It’s a balance built on consistency, not luck.
Conclusion
We shouldn't be ashamed of small gains. In a world obsessed with "big wins," there is a quiet rebellion in being satisfied with steady, honest progress. Bit by bit, the sink fills up. And bit by bit, we build something that lasts.
