News that mattered last week.
European values are non-negotiable- opinion piece(euobserver.com)
I'm against anything that is "non-negotiable" because only other alternative to negotiating is using force.
That is a really shitty situation. On one hand someone needs to stop this push for bureaucratic superstate that wants to regulate everything and is so removed from the voter that is in practice unaccountable. On the other side why it had to be 2 right wing religous zealots who want totall control over people in their coutries.
When Kaczynski(head of ruling party in Poland) was a major of my city the waiting time to do anything in the town hall rose from few days to few months, because he revoke permit for other employees to sign documents in his name - he wanted to see every document.
Want peace - prepare for war, I guess...
Review fast tracked for Nevada vanadium mine, 1st in the US(abcnews.go.com)
USA Scrambles to decouple itself from china, but I don't see that happening with rare metals. "Rare metals" have mostly the same concentration in dirt all around the world. The only reason mainly china produces them is lack of environment protection laws. The concentrations are minuscule and chemicals used to extract them make processed dirt contaminated and unusable for decades. China just does not care and they are processing most of the dirt from all mines in that way. Looks like US found one that they can produce - but this fast tracking makes me think that even that would not pass regulation when considered in normal way

US to buy eight of Turkey’s F-35s from Lockheed Martin(al-monitor.com)
Yup, you can't trust religious people and especially religious people with power. On the other hand I'm sure US could at any moment send few commands via satellite and brick (permanently turn off) any of them.

UK and US say Russia fired a satellite weapon in space(bbc.com)
Not the first time russia interferes wit usa satellites. Few moths ago there were a story about russian spacecraft positioning itself between US ones - probably eavesdropping.
Logical, get rid of GPS and all those smart bombs and missiles get as dumb as any other.
Aliens spotting out new , soon uninhabited real estate.
No Longer in Shadows, Pentagon’s U.F.O. Unit Will Make Some Findings Public(nytimes.com)
Those statements make me wonder if:
- They try to divert attention from something? If yes, what?
- They are really considering that those are aliens and want to remove stigma to get as much information from public as possible?
- they are really scared that russia or china make some colossal breakthrough in propulsion an physics?

Environmentalists say the destruction of monkeys' natural habitats is the main reason the animals move into urban areas in search of food.
Sorry to break your "environmentalist bubble" but for generations now natural habitat for those monkeys meant streets full of people giving them food. If they would live in the wild there would be o lot less of them. But the population is huge and because of covid there is almost no food - stories like this(or worse) will keep happening until we get back to normal or monkey population get's back to normal.

Our most likely value of climate sensitivity is what people have thought for a long time now, around 3°C. That's really scary. That's not great.

Ghislaine Maxwell: Judge rules to unseal records from 2015 civil suit that could expose accused sex trafficker(independent.co.uk)

Brexit trade deal 'unlikely', Michel Barnier warns Boris Johnson(independent.co.uk)
It was always doomed to fail. UE will not except anything that not makes UK humiliated wasal state and Boris will not agree to that. EU can't agree to honest just deal because if UK manages to maintain it's position after leaving few more coutries may star getting some "wrong" ideas.

I can write a tutorial on setting this up if you want - let me know in comments.
