We all have those moments where our brains kind of take a break on us and we do things that afterwards didn’t seem like the best decision.
We know certain things are bad for us but we do them anyway. Why do we decide to forget all logic in certain situations? I’ve seen someone on a diet, completely in control of their workouts and food intake, eat a 6 pack of donuts in minutes.
Basically, we just lose control. The smallest distraction could send our brains right back to where we were before that diet or before that decision to quit drinking or whatever it may be. It’s like a ticking time bomb.
We work so hard to have self control. I’ve recently starting meditating, which has helped. But only for that time in meditation. It has yet to have affected me while I am not meditating. It is as if the outside world owns me while I am in it and I hold all the power and control while I am not.
Since we are in the Christmas season, I’ll give an analogy that is fitting. It is like when you go shopping and on the way you delegate how much you’re spending on each person and give yourself a budget. But when you get to the mall and see all the sales, it is as if you never had that discussion with yourself on the way. Self control is lost and you start going into every store and max out your credit cards.
So stay strong and stay discipline. Have your plan and stick to it!
