Artificial Intelligence (AI) might not make a lot of sense to most employees now but the future might not appear so bright for some workers. Imagine a situation where most jobs are automated and you are left jobless simply because your skill sets match that of a robot!
Well, am not a doom lover but reality is about to set in; your job being taken over by machines and you have no way to put food on the table for your young family. It might take a few years for this to happen but any employer focusing on profits will surely consider downsizing their employees and turning to automation.
Simple Tasks to be the First in Automation
Human ticketing offices are headed into the dustbins as these can be easily automated. With AI, face, voice and pattern recognition is now possible thanks to the machine learning branch of the new technology. It is also easy to employ the technology to play online games better than humans.
AI is also a huge hit in businesses as a general purpose solution provider. This will hit hard on the programming experts and route jobs are set to be taken away from humans. Computerizing of tasks has been successful in many countries with some example being e-voting, e-tax processing and many more.
Economic Demands will Dictate Automation Levels
A lot of changes in automation have been noted since the 60’s and by 2030 these advances will contribute to unemployment and this will affect the quality of life. However, man is not ready to be jobless and automation will spur a new economic trend to prevent widespread unemployment.
Technically, automation will mass produce goods but the purchasing power will be at its lowest because the larger population is unemployed. As much as products will become cheaper, not many people will be able to afford them.
The villager argument still stands; the horse function was made absolute by cars but the animals’ prestige changed and is now regarded as lifestyle animal compared to the donkey. What the car can do a horse cannot but still remains popular.
Reduced Labor Intensive Economy in the Offing
There could be a decline in labor force participation but robots are not the absolute economic accelerators; the human factor is set to reign supreme. Robots might rival humans at the work place but man will be willing to go for low wages rather than remain unemployed.
Better and competitive skill sets will mean man will outperform automation and those behind AI will continually sweat it out to make robots perform better than humans and that will give you some job security in the future.
