One of the bitcoin addresses indicated by Craig Wright’s lawyers as belonging to him contains about 80 thousand BTC (~ $ 756 million) stolen from Mt.Gox in 2011. This was stated by the former CEO of the exchange Mark Karpeles.
“Craig Wright claims that until recently he controlled this address, recognizing legal liability for damage and interest?” Asked Karpeles.
Wright’s lawyers sent a letter to Blockstream with two BTC addresses allegedly belonging to Wright.
On one of them, 79 957 BTC is stored, on the other - 31 000 BTC. According to lawyers, the self-proclaimed creator of Bitcoin in February 2020 lost access to them as a result of hacking.
They stated that Wright is still the owner of the funds and the company should not allow them to be moved. According to them, the entrepreneur also has all the rights to the name "Bitcoin" and the "database" of cryptocurrency.
Blockstream Strategy Director Samson Moe called the letter “idiotic.”
Users noticed that the address provided by Wright’s lawyers does appear in court documents in the Mt.Gox case.
“Just to make it clear, Craig Wright has just openly (through his lawyers) recognized himself as a guy who stole 80,000 BTC from Mt.Gox, ” wrote Riccardo Spagni, a former lead developer of Monero.
He noted that the cryptocurrency transferred in 2011 from the exchange is still at the address.
Earlier, Wright presented the court with a list of allegedly owned Bitcoin addresses, which allegedly contain 1.1 million BTC. But in May, with 145 of them , a message was sent out accusing the businessman of fraud and perjury. All these addresses were in "sleep mode" from 2009-2010 after receiving 50 BTC of remuneration for mining.
