One of the Centra Tech project managers who advertised the famous boxer, Robert Fakas, confirmed that he was cheating on investors
Robert Farkas, co-founder of ICO Centra Tech, which was advertised by boxer Floyd Mayweather and producer DJ Khaled in 2017, admitted $ 25 million fraud. The project was arrested in April 2018, and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) blamed them in raising funds by selling unregistered securities and cheating investors.
The SEC reported that the company represented among its leaders non-existent people with impressive resumes and biographies, while using false or misleading materials. The founders of Centra informed investors about the signing of partnership agreements with large companies.
For example, a startup promised to present a debit card in cooperation with Visa and Mastercard, which would allow paying with cryptocurrency in any stores. After the founders of the project were arrested, its token depreciated.
In October 2018, Centra investors sued Floyd Mayweather and DJ Khaled. The deceived customers of the company accused celebrities of involvement in the project and demanded compensation for losses. In November of that year, the SEC fined a boxer and producer.
According to the court ruling, Mayweather had to pay $ 300,000 in misappropriated funds, $ 300,000 in fines, and $ 14,775 as a percentage for the period until the decision was made. DJ Khaled received a fine of $ 100,000, must return $ 50,000 of misappropriated funds and a percentage of $ 2725.
