I see it happen over and over on a number of antisocial media sites, but Fartloaf in particular: Hetero/bi/poly women who end up with terrible men as their SO(s): abusive, emotionally unavailable, homophobic, racist, sexist, insecure men who can't get a grip on their egos or jealousy, men who don't see their partners as people in their own right, as anything more than objects for their own sexual gratification. Yet woman partner with these men. Why? Je ne comprends pas. (Yes, Mr. Nice Guy™, I do, of course, know that not all men are like this. So sit back down before you feel compelled to get steamed and leave me angry/hurt comments with that particular hashtag. Check yourself before you wreck yourself, diddums. I also see the good men there. I know a few of them — or their significant others — personally to some degree, too. They're wonderful fucking people who support their partners and give them a lot of comfort, stability and security. They'd be happy to supervise while the others go pound sand.)
I do have a burning desire to ask these women a question, though. Next time you look at the men in your life (and take a long, hard look), please ask yourself this: "Is he really the best I can do? Is he the best person he can be?"
"He who discomendeth others obliquely commendeth himself."
— Sir Thomas Brown
Don't misunderstand me here: I don't wish to imply that I'm better than these men, because I'm not; I'm just another arsehole trying to make his way in the world (and I still have a long way to go). Anyone who looks at me closely will hopefully realise they should stay the hell away from me (and that's probably best for all concerned, myself included). And yet, I still get blind friend requests from people who've claimed to look over my profile and recent activity ... But Christ on a cracker, some people's choice of companions makes me wonder what the hell kind of decision-making process went on in choosing them (or me, for that matter), what red and orange flags were ignored ...
Apologies to my Indo-Asian readers. That was the only generic red flag image I could find that wasn't emblazoned with some country's markings or strongly suggestive of one.
