I am definitely not a professional crypto guy, that is for sure. I don't have the resources for mining, neither do I have enough money to stake large amounts of crypto. However, I like the idea of crypto, and I collect a little BAT here and a little DAI there (at publish0x) . It does not give much money quickly, but it is fascinating to see how the sums creep upwards. I guess I am a little too lazy to actually make money on blogging. Be that so, but when you don't want to mine actively, but would like to do some "toy mining"(*), then what can you try that provides you with the most for the least efforts?
First, I just want to say that I don't intend the term "toy mining" as being negative or derogatory; it is more that the activity plays a role of leisure activity, rather than being a full fledged mining process. I enjoy testing out these different applications and web sites. I consider publish
Now, you may ask, what's the point of mining if you don't get paid enough? Well, there may be many reasons, but one thing I have found is that there are many interesting projects that are based on crypto, which have an interesting idea with it. So what have I started to test for "toy mining" then:
Well, there are a few small applications and projects that are quite fun and entertaining and I will give you my personal thoughts about those I use, so here goes (just to clarify, I use an Android phone):
Banano:
Actually my favourite, and even though I thought it was a joke, to start with, it has grown to be the one that actually does accumulate, even though I am not doing anything. Actually, I "mine" it on my four computers, through the Folding@home application. I also participate in the BlackMonkey Banano games, whenever they occur. So what does it give me? The game BlackMonkey gives a nice addition to my wallet (Kalium), and is very entertaining. I even think it trains my perceptive skills, so it might even be beneficial in that way. The Folding application is a distributed processing environment that is used to process data for certain medical research, and so it actually does something good on the way. It is a steady dropping of Bananos in my wallet.
Bling!
On my phone I have two different applications from Bling: BitCoin Blaster and BitCoin Blocks. Those are very simple games, and you can only play a few sessions per day. You claim the BitCoin once a week, and no, it does not add substantially to my wallet content. However, a little addition now and then can easily grow in the longer term. And the games are OK to play now and then! :)
LBRY
Even if the functionality is not at all in par with YouTube, LBRY does have a lot of interesting movies to view, depending on what your interests are. I have just started to explore the site, but I think I will spend more time there, and not only to earn some crypto (LBC). If you are a contributor, you can of course gain more, but even as a passive consumer you get some crypto added. It also has a tipping mechanism. So far I haven't tried any of the more advanced functions yet, but I sure will. So far, I have not claimed any of the crypto gathered so far.
PI
I just happened to fall upon PI and of course I had to test it, if not for anything so for the name (It seems like there is almost a cryptocurrency for every conceivable name you can give it). The PI project only needs you to log into your phone once a day and reactivate your process. You don't have to have the application open or anything as long as you open it once a day. So far, the PI crypto is not worth anything, but we'll see how it develops. I only try it for the name of it, currently.
Free BitCoin Cash and Free LiteCoin
These are two applications that combine a daily quick lottery activity with a possibility to perform different activities in order to get more satoshis and litoshis. You have to reach a certain level of points until you can claim it, and unless you perform the activities, it can really take a long time before you get the possibility to do so. Unfortunately, the only reasonable way to get more crypto regularly by performing tasks is to answer surveys, and more often than not, there are no surveys available... I got bored with these.
Conclusions?
Why would you even care about this? Well, of course you won't get rich here. Byt on the other hand, one dollar per week over a year is 50 dollars, and if, just if the market for any of these goes up, I might buy myself some nice stuff for Christmas...
But anyway, if I get a little more active here on publish0x, I will probably get more crypto here than from the other sources. But since I'm not in it for the money, I will probably keep it up for a while. But if you really want to know, the current earning situation is as follows for about the same period of tiiime (3 weeks):
- BANANO: $3.73
- BLING!: $1
- LBRY: $1.57
- PI: $0 (245pi)
- Free X coin: $1
- Publish0x: $2
So, after three weeks, I have gathered some $6, or $2 per week on games and toy mining. I realise now, that I will have to increase my blogging and tipping here so that it gets in par with the games at least... you have to work for the gains, right?
And if you think I'm crazy to do this you might be right, I am a bit weird sometimes. But I hold on to my favourite meme:
If you spit into the sea long enough, it will overflow in the end...
