"So, we got in way before BlackRock π€·π»ββοΈ".
This is the tweet from Nayib Bukele, the President of El Salvador, which was shared with his followers on the exact date when the SEC officially approved Bitcoin spot ETFs in the US. The event, although highly anticipated, had minimal impact on the market. One could argue that everything was already factored into the market before the official announcement.
As the current market sentiment suggests, it's not the opportune moment for ETH to exhibit strength, given the numerous ETH spot ETF filings awaiting approval. However, that's a story for another time. For now, let's turn our attention to Bukele...
So, what did this individual do that garnered so much attention in the past couple of years? Well, in September 2021, he enacted a law making Bitcoin legal tender in El Salvador. Additionally, he successfully eradicated "pandileros" (gang members) who were terrorizing and killing Salvadorians, contributing to several other positive changes in the country.
While he received criticism from the IMF for switching to Bitcoin, human rights activists jumped in to "protect the rights of the pandileros." If one were to rely solely on traditional media, they might perceive Bukele as nothing more than a cold dictator, steering El Salvador towards communism rather than true democracy.
But what if he is indeed a dictator? Sometimes, a strong leader is needed to steer a country away from destruction. I reside in a country with first-hand experience of a communist regime and dictatorship that persisted for several decades until 1989. I was merely three years old when the so-called revolution occurred, leading to the demise of the dictator Nicolae Ceausescu.
What ensued? Unfortunately, it wasn't the democratic utopia the masses envisioned during the bloody upheaval called the Revolution. For a while, it seemed like we were on the path to becoming a true democratic nation. However, the secret services, instrumental in the dictator's downfall and manipulated by external powers, had different intentions.
Their plan all along was to transform the country into an open market for various European interests. The secret service leaders aimed to maintain key roles in governance, while their families seized control of lucrative businesses. The state-owned industry and agriculture were systematically dismantled, and natural resources were sold to external companies affiliated with the plotters of the so-called revolution. Consequently, we, the people, became mere consumers and cheap labor for other European countries.
While we were once a powerful nation under Ceausescu's dictatorship, we are now the butt of Europe's jokes. They even deny us membership in the Schengen zone, fearing a loss of businesses for Austria and the Netherlands, which currently benefit from our exclusion. Does this make me yearn for someone like Ceausescu to return to power? Absolutely not...
But I wouldn't mind "a dictator like Bukele." This leader utilized the military to rid the country of criminals and made Bitcoin legal tender. Although citizens aren't obligated to use BTC as legal currency in El Salvador, they have options. In my country, we lack such choices. We're forced to accept all the regulations the EU imposes, regulations imported from the US. Romania has lost its backbone...
While I am a fervent supporter of decentralized networks, I recognize that a decentralized network, where decisions are made solely by enthusiasts, is inferior to a centralized network that doesn't offer absolute "freedom of choice." Instead, decisions made by the governing authority, for the greater good of the community, can have positive implications. I don't subscribe to the idea of "decentralizing everything." Some things simply can't be decentralized.
I've lost faith in the power of the masses because I witness how weak and disoriented they are. I understand this post might not make much sense to those living in more developed countries. However, when dealing with the challenges we face daily, you might find yourself yearning for a dictator who prioritizes the well-being of the people and their community.
The individuals currently governing our country are mere puppets of the West, transforming it into a sold-out nation. They've acquired what they wanted and ruled over us for more than 30 years with no intention of serving the people. Every election, the names on the lists might change, but the puppet masters behind the scenes remain the same.
Anyway, I hope you're all having a better day wherever you are, and until next time.
Thanks for your attention,
Adrian
