What a crazy time it is in the world. It finally feels like things will be opening up and the need to take a break away feels increasingly necessary.
I have to express sympathy to American readers at this point. Here in the UK I get 30 days paid annual leave per year, plus 11 public holidays and the option to take back up to four weeks of flexi time. This opens up a lot of flexibility with family time. The Uk is however quite restrictive on allowing kids to take holidays inside term time.
My wife and I have commenced planning in Earnest. Top of our list is a(nother) trip to Disney world, Florida. We love this place, the food, the sun and the theme parks. We are looking ahead to 2022 and trying to weigh up the pros and cons of staying on site at Disney. Disney offers a lot and currently they are offering £1000 dining credit. As big food fans we would easily go through this in one week and this factor offers us significant savings. You do however pay a premium for staying on site at Disney, the premium is two-fold; firstly the cost 20-50 % more expensive compared to a hotel on I-drive or a villa. Secondly, you get less space. I suppose space isn’t a huge factor if you spend all day at the parks. We have you got young kids so that need for space is greater especially in the evenings.
Turning to villas, you certainly get space. One year we spent 18 days in Florida in a Four bed villa which cost $3000 in an exclusive area. I’ll as are my preferred option but I can see my wife giving me the hard sell on the Disney experience. So no firm decisions yet but with restrictions easing everywhere there is going to be high demand for either type of vacation.
