A fake Trezor Wallet app has been found on the App Store, and is possibly allowing users' Bitcoin to be stolen. The app, called "Trezor Wallet Suite," is not affiliated with the Trezor brand hardware wallets. Once unsuspecting users enter their seed phrase into the malicious app, they are immediately at risk of having their Bitcoin permanently taken from them.

The counterfeit app has been available for weeks. While it’s unclear how many users have been affected, commentators have estimated that the number of victims could be in the hundreds or even thousands.

The fraudulent app has since been removed from the App Store, but it’s of course still possible that users who had previously downloaded it could still input their seed phrase and lose their Bitcoin.

This incident is a reminder of the importance of being careful when downloading new apps. A generally recommended best practice is to make sure that you only download apps from reputable sources. Users should also likely think twice before entering their seed phrase into apps or other software and websites, as compromised seed phrases will almost assuredly lead to financial losses.
