CARTESI: A LINUX INFRASTRUCTURE FOR SCALABLE BLOCK-CHAIN!

INTRODUCTION

Cartesi is Linux-based system for scalable D-apps (De-centralized Applications). It is the operating system for D-apps. Cartesi's idea is to re-shape the future for the improvement of D-apps. D-apps future has been predicted to have few problems it will be confronted with. This is because of some of the limitations and challenges associated with block-chain, that have also been an hindrance to it's wider-range acceptance and adoption. And, since D-apps are based on the block-chain, the future of their development is also being threatened, unless something is done in order to address the issue, so as to make the future of D-apps development very feasible.

In this article, I'll be doing a general overview of Cartesi; the reason for it's design, it's components, tokenomics and so on.

WHY CARTESI: BLOCK-CHAIN ADOPTION OBSTACLES AND D-APPS DEVELOPMENT

Block-chain technology's use cases keep increasing per time, and the need to revamp or improve on it's fundamental infrastructure is also increasing.

Presently, there are 2 main constraints to the expansive acceptance and adoption of block-chain's feature include it's:

  1. Inadequate Scalability
  2. The absence of a solid environment for development

Cartesi is a platform designed for the purpose of addressing these two issue of block-chain.

 

BASIC COMPONENTS OF CARTESI'S PLATFORM

Cartesi's D-apps are hybrid in design, that is, they combine and utilize two components. Cartesi' is a layer-2 system for D-apps that comprises of two main components, namely:

  • Block-chain components
  • Off-chain components

 

BLOCK-CHAIN COMPONENTS

We all know what block-chain is all about. Cartesi's block-chain components are the parts of it's infrastructure that are purely based on the block-chain technology, utilizing the powerful features of block-chain.

OFF-CHAIN COMPONENTS

The off-chain section of Cartesi Platform operates inside it's nodes. These nodes stand for each of D-apps user's interest. 

CARTESI MACHINES: There is also the provision for what is known as multipliable Cartesi Machines for the developers of D-apps. The nodes are responsible for the provision of these machines.

The functions of Cartesi Machines are:

  1. Computation execution
  2. Supporting disputes-settlement about computation results

COMPLEX COMPUTATIONS: Moreover, expansive, confirmable computations can be efficiently run on these machines. These confirmable (able to be verified) computations a be simply incorporated with smart contracts for the provision of solid conflict-settling assurance. This is necessary because of the complexity of these computations.

NATIVE CODES: Cartesi nodes provide developers of D-apps with the opportunity of running native Codes for the purpose of developing the system.

BASED ON LINUX OS: off-chain components of Cartesi operate totally on an absolute Linux OS which offers the complete eco-system needed to perform sophisticated computations.

THE CARTESI NODE

The node is the soft- and hardware system on which the off-chain Cartesi D-apps components are based. Every user who's interested in interacting with a Cartesi D-app must posses this node. Initially, and for now, these nodes will be made to run on a PC in such a way that they will be managed by the user as docker containers.

CARTESI TOKENOMICS (CTSI Token)

The tokenomics of Cartesi is also designed and set-up in such a way that it agrees with the main purpose of Cartesi platform — addressing the challenges of block-chain features' scalability and usability.

The basic utility-token of Cartesi platform is the Cartesi Token, known as CTSI. It is cryptographically-secure and serves as a central player in the functioning of the Cartesi eco-system. CTSI is an ERC-20-based token.

About 1 billion CTSI tokens is being supplied for the implementation of the eco-system. 

CONCLUSION

Cartesi is Linux-based system designed basically for scalable D-apps. It is designed in order to reshape the future of the improvements of D-apps.

Due to the 2 main challenges of block-chain which are  lack of scalability and absence of a solid environment for development, D-apps which are based on block-chain will also have issues in the future in terms of development. There is therefore the need to address these issues of block-chain in order to ensure a good future for D-apps development.

Cartesi is the solution! Cartesi's idea is to re-shape the future for the improvement of D-apps through it's hybrid infrastructure. It is hybrid because it comprises of both BLOCK-CHAIN components and Off-chain components. The token of the Cartesi Ecosystem is the cryptographically-secure CTSI which serves as a central tool for the eco-system's functioning.
