After playing Gods Unchained for several weeks now, I have encountered a few situations where it seemed a card was able to hit different creatures. But the fact of the matter was it was not. So I did what I usually do, took a deeper look at how it is decided what gets hit when.
How exactly are ties broken in the game?
Let us dive right in. What I am talking about is how things like "the strongest creature" or "the strongest enemy creature" gets decided when there are several creatures of equal strength.
The issue I am having is I don't really know if there is an underlying mechanism to certain decisions in the game, or if it is just RNG. It looks like there are some mechanisms, at least my experience tells me that, or there are some crazy low-odds events going on.
If we take away the obvious first step, comparing strengths. What I have been able to decern is that there is a second factor at play. This steps in when there are two creatures of equal strength. And that is the remaining hitpoints. In short, the creature with the most hitpoints will be targeted.

Two of the card that uses the tiebreaker mechanism in the game to decide who they will target
But I was not satisfied with this, my assumption, and me analyzing the data from my own games. So I did what anyone would do in my situation. I messaged the support and asked. And they were more than happy to help me out.
To my big surprise, there was actually one more step included in the selection process before our lord RNGesus took over. And that was card cost. They did not specify how this matters but I think it is safe to assume it is the card with the highest mana cost that gets targeted first. And if that were to be the same as well. Then as I said it is all up to RNGesus to decide which of the cards in question, it is that will get hit.
If you think that this sounds like an interesting game that you would like to check out yourself, and maybe participate in an upcoming tournament. I would greatly appreciate it if you would consider signing up using my referral code.

If you do, we both get 10 $GODS when you reach rank 6 and have verified your wallet.
I hope that you now will be able to take full advantage of this tiebreaker mechanism. And maybe pull one over on your opponent if you are lucky. The more you know the better player you will become, that is at least what I believe. =)
Have you had any funny or interesting interactions with this mechanism in the game, if you have I would love to hear about them. If you would like to support me and the content I make, please consider following me, reading my other posts, or why not do both instead.
See you on the interwebs!
