Yes our day has finally come. This is the moment we all eagerly waited for ever since Satoshi embedded that legendary first message in the genesis block: 'Cheese on brink of counterfeit, edible microchip activated'.
Planning on having melted parmesan cheese on top? Chances are there will already be a microchip in there that outlived the cooking process, unless you cranked the heat up to +500 °C. If this seems like satire or gibberish that's because we are nowadays in a world where fiction can hardly be distinguished from reality, so allow me to share the most relevant statements: "The Parmigiano Reggiano Consortium has teamed up with Dutch cheesemark designer Kaasmerk Matec and American developer of digital tracking tech p-Chip Corporation to add blockchain-enabled digital labels to improve the traceability of its cheese wheels....P-Chip creates trackable silicon microchips embedded directly into a food-safe casein label and placed on cheese wheels. These durable trackers are the same size as a grain of salt and used to determine a product’s authenticity, as well as its origin in the supply chain...micro transponder can survive between temperatures of -200°C to 500°C, is resistant to microwave irradiation, and is not affected by solvents or reagents."
So consortium cheese meets consortium blockchain eyyh? I know we covered something like this before but still you've got to wonder though, where are all those logistics/tracking cryptos in all this?🤔 Anyways if you're like me and was planning to from now on purposely look for counterfeit parmesan or Argentinian reggianito to avoid all this, you should know that the chips will be put in the rind or what is known as "hard skin" of the cheese and not deep inside the actual cheese itself. But then again you've got to wonder why they would specifically make the chips so small, edible and then actually eat one. “We don’t want to be known as the company accused of tracking people,” p-Chip Chief Technology Officer Bill Eibon told the newspaper. Eibon himself ate one of the chips without suffering any issues...I ate one of the chips and nobody is tracking me, except my wife, and she uses a different method.”
I'll tell you why, because some people will actually be eating them. Whether it accidentally gets into the actual cheese by cutting it in exactly the wrong place or perhaps for some dish that requires parmesan cheese rinds (actually a thing for soups, stews and Italian sauces). But why though? Surely they must know how all this looks right? I mean tracking stuff aside, I'm not all that comfortable having mini-tech in my digestive system. The before mentioned clothing industry didn't go about it this way, so why did Paramigiano and p-chip? "Security labels, holograms and barcodes are some of the most common authentication technologies used by manufacturers on their product packaging, but p-Chip argues they are not as secure or as cost effective as its microtransponder." Ohh so it's a marketing thing. Well, ever heard of demarketing?💸
IDK man, just like that movie Smile this whole thing just gives me the creeps. Say 🧀cheese.
