Does climate fees come for every kilometer? EU regulation for new cars: from 2020 fuel consumption will be monitored

Until now, strict wrinkle emission regulation has led the manufacturers of new cars in particular, who had to cope with strict standards and other methods of measuring consumption. However, as we know, actual consumption varies greatly depending on various factors. It can be influenced, for example, by the weather or driving style of a particular driver.

And the way the drivers are driving is what the European Union wants to shine in the near future. Starting in 2020, manufacturers will have to install a new feature called FCM (Fuel Consumption Monitor) in vehicles to monitor and store your fuel consumption data. These results can then be compared with the manufacturer's stated values according to the WLTP methodology at the emission control.

It is currently unknown what the European Union is planning to do with this data. However, many doubt that this data collection will only be used for 'statistical purposes'. It is believed that in the future, new high consumption taxes may be imposed by heavy-footed drivers on the accelerator when they exceed the manufacturer's declared values.

According to Focus.de, the FCM should start to be installed in the newly approved models from 2020 onwards, with the FCM mandatory for every vehicle sold in Europe from 1.1.2021.
