Denmark has set a new record in wind power production

The ongoing climate change in Denmark will gain momentum in the coming years. The local government is trying to fight the situation and the result is almost 50% energy consumption from wind sources.

Denmark has achieved a historic record in the transition to renewable energy. In 2019, wind energy accounted for almost 50% of total consumption. Information was provided on twitter by Danish company Energinet.

The original 2017 record was improved by a full 4% (47% in 2019). This was mainly due to the new North Sea wind farm, which produces energy for some 425,000 households. A strong gusty sea wind is also a solution for other states, such as the United Kingdom, which is also considering a similar investment.

The Danish goals are clear. By 2030, they are committed to reducing emissions to 70% below 1990 levels. Despite the fact that non-renewable energy will play a major role in the coming years, the transition to renewable energy is inevitable. Denmark is also aware of the ongoing climate change and counts on others in the future. According to the latest assumptions, there will be an increased occurrence of rainfall in winter, higher heat waves, more wind and water surface levels.

Denmark can be an inspiration for other states where wind energy makes sense. In the US, for example, they are already considering a large investment in wind farms on their coasts and a similar debate will play a big role in the presidential elections this year.
