Since VPNs are a main way of staying anonymous online, also one of my favorite topics and I like trying them out, in this blog I’m going to share my point of view and also the test results I’ll be performing on different VPN apps, which are available for free. Now, technically, there’s no such thing as “completely” free, so there’s a pretty good chance these apps will either be in free trials, contain ads, or in-app purchases.
For the analysis, I’ll be doing it in ten parts:
- IP leak: The server location is the same as the VPN app claims.
- DNS Leak: Checking where the DNS servers that the app provides belong to.
- Is IPv6 supported?
- Connection speed rate (Slow, Medium, Fast)
- The available server location (countries)
- Supported VPN protocols.
- Do they offer external configs, as in OpenVPN and Wireguard?
- Does it automatically reconnect after connection is restored?
- Limitations of free version, if there are any.
- Available platforms
So I’ll be using these keywords to make the upcoming posts as short and useful as possible:
- IP Leak
- DNS Leak
- IPv6
- Speed
- Locations
- Protocols
- Configs
- Auto Reconnect/Kill-switch
- Limitations
- Platforms
That’ll be these for now, let’s get to work!
