Dice Needed Roll

Read this before taking any prescription drug

Warning: This information may cause cognitive dissonance

It is called the NNT or Number needed to treat.  The most important stat you've never seen, and for good reason(not good for you of course).

The NNT offers a measurement of the impact of a medicine or therapy by estimating the number of patients that need to be treated in order to have an impact on one person.

Here is their main site: NNT.com

An example I looked up are the statin drugs (lipitor, zocor etc....), that are used for cholesterol control. And this is what you get:

  • No statistically significant mortality benefit
  • 1 in 217 avoided a nonfatal heart attack (myocardial infarction)
  • 1 in 313 avoided a nonfatal stroke

Yes, you are reading that right. To avoid a nonfatal heart attack for ONE PERSON , 217 people have to take the drug. 216 people don't benefit at all, which might not be so bad if it was just wasting time and money. But......

  • 1 in 21 experienced pain from muscle damage
  • 1 in 204 developed diabetes mellitus

1 in 21 get muscle damage. Guess what's made of muscle? Your Heart! Why are doctors still using these drugs?

You can search your favorite drug or therapy if you want. It helps to have an architectural background like me first. The drugs and therapies are not easy to look up. Some are not listed individually. Some are only done by generic/chemical name etc... So I have chosen some popular ones that members of your family are probably on.

Here is the link for the aforementioned statin drugs.

Here is Plavix (clopidegrel) used by thousands, and one of the top prescribed drugs on the planet.

https://www.thennt.com/nnt/clopidogrel-for-cardiovascular-prevention-after-prior-heart-attack-or-stroke/

Not all singular drugs are included, but this is for all high blood pressure drugs:

https://www.thennt.com/nnt/anti-hypertensives-to-prevent-death-heart-attacks-and-strokes/

here is ibuprofen for lower back pain

https://www.thennt.com/nnt/non-steroidal-anti-inflammatory-drugs-acute-low-back-pain/

1 in 14 people get relief in pain intensity? That's a lot better than the statins, but still 13 people wasted time and money.

I would like to reiterate, reinstate, regurgitate, rehydrate , and reaffirm  this into your consciousness. This is real. It is not a joke. Even after you read it twice, or three times, you may still experience cognitive dissonance for years. I still can't believe it. And even if you tried to point this out to your grandma( or yourself), they won't stop taking them, or even ask their doctor what the NNT is(Your Doctor doesn't know BTW).

Centralization of health care has taught everyone the same thing "Trust us and only us". Everything else is "alternative". Alternative to what? Well, them of course. They have deemed themselves the standard. How did they become the standard? Buying congressmen, that's how.

How does Howard Roark compete with that? Where's the "vegetables are good for you" lobby?

What is even worse, is that the NNT is probably inaccurate. Not toward the positive end, but toward the negative. The information used to get the NNT, is using the medical establishments own research. How scary is that?

Modern Medicine appears to be mostly useless, if it weren't would they need to spend so much money on politicians? Roll the dice if you like(you will need Dungeons and Dragons dice for this).  I'll eat what people are suppose to eat, and move like people are suppose to move instead.
