Where we choose to consume our daily dose of information.

Where we choose to consume our daily dose of information.

Cryptocurrency is a big part of our lives and that is why we allocate so much our of daily consumption to it. Almost every single person has a range of interests which they prioritise learning and discovering more about. This means it is very important to know where and for what reason we are reading the relevant content created for us.

I will attempt to rate these different sources based on how healthy they will be in the long run for your hobby/interest.

Obviously we will start with our favourite source of information (gotta love it) Publish0x. As you already know there is a lot of content being produced, but why and how do publishers decide on the content they create. I would argue that the main goal is to catch your eye with each post to get your tip. That is why there are so many hyperbolic pieces about price prediction or earning methods etc. Clearly this cannot mean that we exclude the fact that there is a lot of genuine alpha being disseminated on the platform but ultimately the competition is to attract the reader by any means necessary. It is great fun to read about how, for example, Bitcoin is only going up from now on + Bitcoin is going to crash imminently - all within 30 mins of reading but this rollercoaster of information needs to be taken with a gallon of salt.

The next source I'd like to go over is reddit, specifically r/cryptocurrency. Since the introduction of 'moons' the quality of the subreddit has taken a massive hit. You would expect a system which allows the crowd to decide what content is relevant/important, to work reasonably well.... until you introduce moons. Instead of redditors posting hidden secrets and interesting news, there is a race to post news that everyone has probably already heard of in an attempt have your post take off and have the most upvotes. This means that you probably won't be getting any juicy alpha, instead just wasting your vital time consuming reposts and bait.

Twitter is a little different. In this bird world tweeps are battling for audiences and recognition through building long term reputation. This system incentivises alpha and accurate data because making bombastic predictions will eventually lead to your twitter account suffering a slow death.

John McAfee is a great example of this. Many actors in the cryptosphere have chosen twitter as the platform to announce developments which is a huge PLUS. Since there are no tips/moons, monetisation must come from deceptive tactics.. This means your favourite tweep might be tweaking their content to shill their own schemes. This can be quite a pain in the neck.

This is spiciest entry in my post. Yes! It is the business and finance board or /biz/. This image board is a cesspit of the internet which is constantly brimming with scams and unrelated content. This is definitely not a place you want to consume your daily information from unless you have a great tolerance to offensive and outrageous posts. Having said all of this, there are 'crumbs' on this site(as users call it) which have proven to be extremely profitable. From this board the link marines were born and bolstered.

The last source i would like to highlight is telegram. On this messaging platform there are many crypto related chats where communities keep up to date with the very latest news. This leads to competition between chats to be the most prestigious group. There are also announcement channels which are easier to follow than sites like twitter. Unfortunately crypto chatrooms struggle to keep a balance between being small tightly knit communities that are extremely helpful and packed rooms filled with scammers only concerned with milking members.

In conclusion, none of these sources are immune from time-wasting / scammers / exaggerations / poor content. The key is in navigating most of these sources the best way that suits your needs. Whatever you do just don't stare at the balls on /biz.

Let me know of any sources i may have missed in the comments!
